The Local Region

Unlike many building companies with Head Offices in Auckland and Regional Offices in the Bay of Plenty, the difference with Harwood Homes is that we originate from here, we live here, we work and play here.  This is our patch and we love it!  If you're new to the region, or you're considering moving here, then here's some of the main attractions to look forward to. 

One of the fastest growing cities in the country, Tauranga is one of New Zealand's main centers for business, international trade, culture, fashion, horticultural science, education and entertainment. It is home to renowned institutions covering a broad range of professional and cultural fields, a substantial economic place, with the largest natural harbour port in New Zealand, the Port of Tauranga.  The city has a current population growth of between 2 -3 % annually with a 14% growth rate over the 5-year period between the 2001 and 2006 census. Employment opportunities along with lifestyle options continue to attract people to the region and, in addition to the enviable climate, the area is home to some of New Zealand’s best beaches, surf and fishing spots. Sea sports abound with Mt Maunganui being a top holiday destination for many New Zealanders.

What's happening with housing in the region?

Just down the coastline from Mt Maunganui is the thriving area of Papamoa with its long stretches of beach. Papamoa offers a quieter more laid back, relaxed atmosphere, than the busier Tauranga and Mount areas. It has several small to medium sized shopping centres, schools, recreation reserves, sports centres and nearby golf courses and is the home of the popular up market subdivision Palm Springs. Another popular new subdivision is the Lakes, situated in Tauriko, on the fringes of Tauranga City.
