Comparing Building Companies

You make the decision to build a new home and start investigating various building companies.

Ask around, visit showhomes (more than one if necessary), start a booklet of ideas etc so that your building company of choice can really understand 'your dream home', and if you start discussing indicative costs with building companies, make sure you're comparing apples with apples.  What on the surface might appear to be a less expensive company, could create all kinds of issues down the line when cost variances are suddenly introduced, corners are cut on quality control, or if the building team doesn't work as one complementary unit.  Ask for testimonials at this stage and if possible, follow up with personal phone calls or site visits.
